In the Autumn term, Year 4 looked at the book, Bold Women in Black History by Vashti Harrison. We learnt about four incredible women: Harriet Tubman, Tessa Sanderson, Alma Woodsey Thomas and Angela Davis. We looked at the amazing achievements each woman made and then wrote a letter for our Prime Minister persuading him to include Black History in our National Curriculum. Here is some of our work.
This term, Year 4 read the book, Race to the Frozen North by Catherine Johnson. This book tells the untold story of Matthew Henson, an African American explorer who was most likely the first man to stand on top of the world. We loved reading about his determination and sacrifice.
This term, Year 4 read the story, 'The Watsons go to Birmingham, 1963.' We enjoyed empathising with the characters and learning about the significance of the time period. We researched Martin Luther King Junior and learnt about the protests that were happening at the time when the book was set.
