Remote Learning

At St. Alban’s Catholic Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that all children continue to receive a high-quality education whenever they are unable to attend school in person. Whether due to illness, self-isolation, or other exceptional circumstances, we will support children to continue their learning and remain connected to their school community.

Our highest priority is the safety, well-being, and educational progress of every child. We recognise that periods of remote learning can present challenges for families, and we are committed to providing support, guidance, and opportunities for all children to continue learning successfully from home.

How Remote Learning Works

When children are unable to attend school for a significant period, learning will continue through a range of online and offline activities designed to provide a broad and balanced curriculum.

Children will access learning through a combination of:

  • Zoom lessons
  • Pre-recorded teaching videos and online resources
  • Live lessons and teaching sessions where appropriate
  • Independent learning activities and practical tasks
  • Reading, phonics and mathematics activities
  • Curriculum-based work across a range of subjects

Teachers carefully plan learning to follow the curriculum and build on what children have already been taught in school. Lessons are designed to be engaging, accessible and appropriate for children's age and stage of development.

Children may complete work digitally or on paper. Completed work can be submittedby email to the year group email address. This enables teachers to monitor progress, provide feedback, celebrate success and identify where further support may be needed.

Regular engagement with remote learning is important as new knowledge, concepts and skills continue to be taught during periods away from school.

Live Teaching and Well-being

Where appropriate, children will be invited to take part in live lessons, class check-ins and virtual support sessions through Zoom. These opportunities help children remain connected with their teachers and classmates, ask questions and receive additional guidance.

As a Catholic school, we also recognise the importance of supporting children's spiritual and emotional well-being. Opportunities for prayer, collective worship, reflection and wellbeing activities may be shared throughout periods of remote learning to help children remain connected to our school values and faith community.

Through our partnership with families, we aim to ensure that every child continues to feel supported, valued and successful in their learning, wherever they are.
