PE and Sports Premium

Sports Premium Vision for St. Alban's

At St Alban’s Catholic Primary School, we understand the contribution of PE and sport to the health and well-being of our pupils.  That is why we have employed a highly skilled Lead Sports Coach, alongside his dedicated team, to work with the children on the playground at lunch time. They play a variety of team games to build resilience and sportsmanship, keeping them active and healthy.

In addition, we believe that an exciting, varied PE curriculum, combined with extra-curricular opportunities, can help to promote other valuable qualities such as good discipline, teamwork, communication, perseverance and a drive to succeed.  We aim to achieve this through a commitment to providing every child with the necessary skills and confidence to participate in sporting activities and in leading a healthy lifestyle.

We ensure that our staff access coaching and training so that they are confident when delivering the PE curriculum.

Our main objective: To achieve self-sustaining improvement in the quality of PE and sport in our school.

It is expected that we will see an improvement against the following 5 key indicators:

  1. The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – kick-starting healthy active lifestyles.
  2. The profile of PE and sport being raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement.
  3. Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport.
  4. Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils.
  5. Increased participation in competitive sport.

Swimming

All children from Y1 - Y6 attend swimming lessons for a 6 week block during the school year at Cocks Moors Leisure Centre. Children in Y3 attend swimming lessons every day for a two week block in the Autumn Term. This gives them a 'boost' in their ability and confidence.
