Your homework this week is to design a Christmas card on the theme of welcome, belonging and peace.  Remember Mary, Joseph and Jesus were asylum seekers looking for safety.  It is a national competition for Schools of Sanctuary.  The cards will then be available to buy on the City of Sanctuary website and advertised to the over 115 local City of Sanctuary community groups across the UK.

 

Entries need to be A6 size (a quarter of a piece of A4).

During one of our reading sessions this week, we watched a video about recommending book. This was in preparation for the children working on their reading target for this half term - To begin to recommend books that you have read to your peers, giving reasons for your choices. 

 

     

     

    For homework, the children need to prepare their book recommendation to share with the class. All children will be expected to recommend a book. They need to talk about:

    • Genre and style
    • Settings and characters (where appropriate)
    • A very short synopsis
    • Similar stories, texts, authors. 
    • Why they liked book.
    • How it made them feel.

    Spelling Practise: 

    Spellingframe is a fantastic website that breaks down spellings into sounds / rules. It allows children to practise words in a variety of ways including fun games and repetitive exercises. It also has a testing option for children to assess themselves. 

    Usually parts of the website are subscription based, however all of the Year 5 and 6 resources are available for free until SATs week. If your child finds spelling difficult, or would just like some extra practise, it is worth having a look.
