Autumn Term Homework

Hello Year 2! 

 

Well done on completing your first term in year 2! You have all worked so very hard this term and have grown up so much already!

 

Thank you all for making my first term at St Alban's so lovely, and thank you for your very kind cards and gifts. 

 

Christmas Holiday Homework

 

Our topic next term is called Movers and Shakers. We are going to be learning all about people who have had a major impact on the world. Over the holiday I would like you to look at the knowledge organiser below and then find out some interesting facts about one or more of the people we are going to be learning about!

I would also like you to play Hit The Button to practise your 5 and 10 x tables! Remember, you can count in 5's and 10's! Use this to work out your times tables by counting in 5's or 10's the number of times it asks you to.

 

Phonics

This week I would like you to play Picnic on Pluto to practise your sounds. My group and Mrs Rabone's group please choose phase 4 and 5, Miss Smith and Miss Knowles' groups please choose phase 3 and 4. 

 

Reading

You all know how much I love reading, especially books with no pictures! smiley I want you to enjoy reading this week and send me a photo of you reading in an unusual place... maybe you could be reading sitting in your toy box, or in your garden shed! Be creative and have fun! We will be creating a display in school with all of your photos - I can't wait to see them!

Maths

This week I would like you to practise finding 1 more and 1 less than a number, and 10 more and 10 less than a number by playing Chopper Squad. Please select the 'Mixed 1 to 100' option and see how many you get right! 

 

Spelling 

Play this 'Spooky Spellings' game to practise your spelling. Drag the letters to spell the word correctly. How many did you get right?

 

Phonics

I would like you to play Yes No Yeti. Read the questions carefully and decide if the answer is yes or no. How many penguins can you get to safety?

 

CHALLENGE 

During the month of November we remember those who have died. Your challenge this week is to create a poppy which is a symbol of remembrance and hope. You could draw, paint or make a model of a poppy. Don't forget to ask someone at home to email me a photo of your hard work!

I would like you to play lots of phonics games over the half term holiday. There are lots of games on Phonics Bloom. If you are in my Read Write Inc group I would like you to play phase 4 and 5 games. If you are in Miss Smith, Mrs Rabone or Miss Knowles' group please choose phase 2 and 3 games. 

 

CHALLENGE 

I know you all enjoyed our Art day looking at the work of Kay Lovesah! I would love to see any pictures you create in the same style! Maybe you could do a self-portrait, or a picture of someone you live with, or even one of your pets!

This week I would like you to practise using part-part-whole models by playing this game. Remember to think about all the different ways we can use tens and ones to create the whole. 

 

Phonics

I would like you to play Forest Phonics. If you are in my group for Read Write Inc please choose the sounds oi, a-e, i-e, o-e to practise. If you are in Miss Smith, Mrs Rabone or Miss Knowles' group please choose the sounds ou, oy, air and ir to practise. 

 

CHALLENGE 

This term in maths we are looking at the numbers 0 - 100. I would like you to collect 100 leaves, conkers , twigs or things you can find outside in your garden or the park and use them to create some art work. Use the photos below as inspiration and don't forget to ask someone at home to email me a photo!

You could make them out of pasta, sweets, cereal, raisins or anything you might already have at home! Use the picture below to help you. If you make one, ask someone at home to email me a photo! I can't wait to see what you come with!
