The Year 6 Reading SATs assess children’s comprehension skills, focusing on their ability to understand, interpret, and analyse texts. The test consists of one paper, which includes a selection of fiction, non-fiction, and poetry extracts, followed by a range of comprehension questions.

The test includes a variety of question types designed to assess different reading skills:
📖 Retrieval Questions – Finding and quoting specific information directly from the text.
📖 Inference Questions – Using clues from the text to understand meaning beyond what is explicitly stated.
📖 Vocabulary Questions – Explaining the meaning of words in context.
📖 Summarising Questions – Identifying the main idea of a paragraph or section of text.
📖 Prediction Questions – Using evidence to predict what might happen next.
📖 Author’s Choice Questions – Discussing why an author has chosen specific words, phrases, or techniques.
📖 Comparative Questions – Comparing two sections of a text or different extracts.
