Religious Education

Currently, we are studying...

Lent, Holy Week, Easter and Pentecost

During the Lent unit, we will be exploring the children three important teachings of Lent: Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving. We will be doing this by learning about Jesus' teachings about these three concepts whilst also exploring Jesus' teachings about forgiveness. We will be doing this by reading a variety of Bible stories and parables.

During the Holy Week unit, we will be identifying the different events that take place during Holy Week and be able to sequence them. We will also be learning about the different reasons for Jesus' death and what the consequences were for us, his followers.

During the Easter unit, we will be comparing the Resurrection of Jesus in the four Gospel accounts and understand the effects of this event on the disciples. We will also explore the Ascencion story and it's meaning.

During the Pentecost unit, we will be exploring the story of Pentecost from the Acts of Apostles. Through this, we will be look at the role of the Holy Spirit and how this transformed the lives of the Apostles. We will then look at the Sacraments and find the presence of the Holy Spirit in these.

As we are in Year Four, we will not just be learning the stories on face value, we will also be exploring the meanings that these stories have and what they mean to us as individuals, whilst also developing our own opinion of them.
